Occurrences of ευαγγελιον & ευαγγελιζω

March 20, 2010

(See the article that goes with this.)

This list contains references to both the noun ([n]) and verb ([v]) forms for “gospel” in both the New Testament and the original Greek translation of the Old Testament (the Septuagint, or LXX). English is in ESV. I compiled this list using the free software diatheke, some PERL scripting, and some manual editing. Hopefully the list is useful, but reading the context around the verses is much more useful.

Wow, I never knew that! So in Greek there is a verb which means “to bring the good news to someone”? I guess we have the word “evangelize” in English, but we’ve pretty much beaten that verb to death.

The word “evangelize” is stolen right from these words, which are (in order they appear in the title) “euaggelion” and “euaggelizo”.
